Deadly plot to kidnap child from county fair revealed: cops

The chilling details of a foursome’s alleged plot to kidnap a child from a county fair in Michigan were revealed in a new report.

Michigan State Police released texts and witness interviews describing the grisly plan to torture, sexually assault and kill a child in summer 2018, according to MLive in a Thursday report.

The alleged plot was never carried out, but prosecutors filed charges in September against four suspects in connection to the case. They were identified as David Bailey, 37, of Coldwater; Matthew Toole, 32, of Battle Creek; Talia Furman, 32, of Springfield; and Jayme LaPoint, 19, of Athens.

A witness told detectives that she was around a table with the foursome when they were allegedly conspiring to abduct a girl from a county fair.

“Because Jayme LaPoint could pass for a teenager (she was 18 at the time) she would be the decoy,” the police report stated. “Jayme would ask a child to use their phone and when they gave it to her she would run away with it.”

They then planned to kidnap the child, bring her to a cabin and torture her, police said.

“After the torture their hope is she would still be alive,” authorities said. “They would then start a fire and put the child in a burning barrel and put the child in it alive to be burned.”

Police said they wanted to crush the child’s bones and teeth then set the cabin on fire.

Each defendant faces charges for conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit kidnapping and conspiracy to commit criminal sexual conduct.

If convicted on any of the charges, they could be punished with life in prison, according to MLive.
